Increase work productivity with a home routine – Top tips

Although this topic may seem far from advice on buying and selling your home, during the time of self-isolation, we thought we can help you perfect your work from home routine. So if you are currently working from home, our top tips can help you stay motivated and productive but what’s more important keep you sane during this time of uncertainty.

1.     Wake up at the same time

Sticking to your normal wake up routine can be tough when working from home. It’s tempting to stay in bed as long as possible especially when you’re saving time on commuting to work.  But being disciplined with your sleeping habits is the first and most important rule to keep up your productivity level. Set your alarm at the same time every morning to establish your healthy sleep schedule and stick to it. We all know that a good routine is your best friend!

2.     Use a dedicated workspace

Using a dedicated workspace is key to productivity especially when working from home! It can be tempting to work from the comfort of your sofa or bed but having an office or a place with table and chair will separate the relaxation area from the work environment. This can also help you to stay organised.  You can leave your laptop, notes and documents in one place ready for when you return to work the next day. This type of routine can also have a positive impact on your mental health by keeping the boundaries between your personal and professional life clear.

3.     Dress to impress

Yes, this is essential even if you’re working from home. Get dressed every morning just like you would do if you were going into an office. This will not only get you in the right mindset but also increase your productivity level and it is massively important for your mental health too. Have a bit of fun with your outfits and maybe wear your hair differently to change up each day.

4.     Make a daily plan

Who doesn’t like a structure?! Making a to-do list every morning will keep you organised and focused on your daily goals. Consistent planning will also ease off your workload and you will feel satisfied with your accomplishments at the end of the day.

5.     Communicate with your co-workers

It can be tough not seeing your co-workers every day so set up communication with them via video chat such as Skype or Zoom. Video chats are great for casual team meetings or more formal conferences. During self-isolation, a quick phone call can mean the world difference for team motivation. Plus setting up a daily team catch up is useful to keep up to date with everyone’s tasks and responsibilities.

6.     Take breaks

It doesn’t matter if you’re working at the office or from home, breaks are important for your mental and physical health. A 5 minutes stretch every couple of hours will not only clear your head but also preserve your sanity and will make you more focused on your work for the rest of your day. Don’t forget to take a proper lunch break away from your work area. This will allow your body to reset and you will come back to your desk with a fresh perspective and more energy.

7.     Stick to your working hours

When working from home it may be difficult to separate out your personal and professional life, setting your working hours can help you stay in a healthy routine. Having a cut-off time will also keep you motivated so you can be more productive throughout a day.
